In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced the launch of an electric air-conditioned (AC) bus service connecting major religious cities across the state. This initiative aims to provide eco-friendly and comfortable travel options for pilgrims and tourists visiting sacred sites such as Varanasi (Kashi), Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Sonbhadra. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is spearheading this project, with plans to deploy electric buses on routes linking Prayagraj and Ayodhya to Varanasi and Sonbhadra. To support this network, five charging stations are being established—four at the Varanasi Cantt depot workshop and one in Sonbhadra. These stations are expected to be operational within a month, ensuring that buses can recharge efficiently during their routes Each electric bus is designed to seat approximately 28 passengers and will be equipped with modern amenities, including air-conditioning, CCTV cameras, GPS tracking systems, and panic buttons to enhance passenger safety, particularly for women travelers. The buses are capable of traveling up to 150 kilometers on a single charge, with a full recharge taking about 30 minutes
